You Might Fail and It Might Be Better For You Than You Think

Reading Time: 4 minutes Really bold courageous people know that there is very little risk in failing because they’ve got a lot of experience with it. When they take on something new, they do it knowing that “failing” is an option but that potential failure isn’t really a cause for concern. It’s not a preferred outcome, but if they fail, it’s a temporary event, not a defining moment.

Luck tends to favor the bold and nothing makes us more risk-tolerant than a string of failures.

The Root: Arya Stark Forces Night King to Drop Out of Presidential Race

Reading Time: 5 minutes The hero of the evening was definitely Arya Stark, who gave a brief press conference, echoing the National Rapier Association’s (NRA) motto: “The only thing that can stop a bad guy with a sword is the ‘baddest chick’ with a tiny sword.”

“They had us in the first half, I’m not gonna lie,” said Arya. “But I knew that Theon’s bitch ass wasn’t going to be able to protect my brother. Plus, the Night King always has that look in his eyes like he knows he’s the shit…Like I won’t pull up. But I’m Arya Stark. He must not know my daddy. Y’all know how we do.”

Reporters asked Arya if she planned to spend some time with her family after losing so many people. But as she walked away from the podium, she looked at Gendry, pulled him toward her bedroom, smiled, turned and said:

“Not today.”

New York Times: What Happens When Women Stop Leading Like Men

Reading Time: 4 minutes During thousands of years of civilization, women have evolved to deal with the intractable perplexities of life and find means of peaceful coexistence where men have traditionally found roads to conflict. Women have accumulated rich ways of knowing that until recently were dismissed in male circles of power. The alchemy of what has made women the way they are is mysterious: Is it a result of centuries spent trying to survive and prosper in societies where they’ve been viewed as lesser? Or, until recently, of always being appointed the family caregiver, bearing and raising children, tending to elderly parents and disabled siblings, so often left to shoulder the unpaid burdens of real life? Women have learned and taught lessons about how to cope with seeming impossibilities in ways that men traditionally — and to this day — have not. Coaching a slow learner on homework after a day of hassles at the office provides a deep experience of delayed gratification. A woman’s wisdom comes, in part, from the great juggle of her life.

SELF-ACCEPTANCE IS MY SUPERPOWER

Reading Time: 4 minutes In the past few years, I’ve realized this practice of repetitive self-flagellation isn’t really good for my wellbeing and it certainly hasn’t helped my mental health.  I have spent the majority of my time on this planet focused on what I could do better rather than what I’m already doing right. I think that’s kind of the American way. Or late capitalism, or some other lofty social concept or maybe it’s just how our brains are wired.  We use shame to motivate ourselves to do better, to be better. Always working towards some perfect iteration of human existence. One that unfortunately isn’t real, through social media would have you believe otherwise. But the fact remains, being hard on myself has only made me chronically stressed, sometimes miserable, and a lot of unhappy.
