NYT: Michael Avenatti – The Case for Indicting the President

Reading Time: 4 minutes The fact that Mr. Trump is a sitting president should not derail a process that applies to all Americans, regardless of stature or station. He would still have the post-indictment relief available to all citizens, including the ability to challenge the constitutionality of the indictment. Some also argue that indicting the president would critically impair his ability to lead the country. But this is a White House already engulfed in chaos and daily distractions. And if the House were to initiate impeachment proceedings, it is hard to see how that process would be any less distracting than a criminal indictment.

BITCH MEDIA: DIGITAL CRACKDOWNS ON THE SEX TRADE CAN PUT SEX WORKERS AT RISK

Reading Time: 6 minutes When these websites are targeted, workers spooked by lurking law enforcement may turn to the street, where the immediacy of such interactions makes it extremely difficult, if not impossible, to screen clients. Scott Cunningham, a Baylor University professor who studies prostitution and web-based black markets, told Wired that in wake of myredbook.com’s closure, the Internet may have actually decreased the number of street-based workers between the ages of 25 and 40.

Mental Health Clinic Opens Up Inside Texas Walmart | NowThis

Reading Time: < 1 minute This mental health clinic just opened up inside a Walmart to make psychiatric care more accessible and normalized.

A mental health clinical office has opened inside the Carrollton, Texas, Walmart location to make mental health care more accessible and routine. Dr. Russ Petrella, CEO of Beacon Health Options, wants to meet people where they already are and already have relationships, places that are part of their daily routine. He’s hoping opening a mental health clinic in a Walmart will be less intimidating for people. Petrella hopes to de-stigmatize mental health and make it more like physical health treatment. The Walmart is staffed with a clinical social worker who treats stressors like anxiety, depression, grief, and relationship issues.

MICHELLE OBAMA TELLS A SECRET: ‘I HAVE BEEN AT EVERY POWERFUL TABLE YOU CAN THINK OF… THEY ARE NOT THAT SMART’

Reading Time: 2 minutes Obama offered a “secret” to young women everywhere: “I have been at probably every powerful table that you can think of, I have worked at nonprofits, I have been at foundations, I have worked in corporations, served on corporate boards, I have been at G-summits, I have sat in at the U.N.: They are not that smart.”

Lindsey Graham: We’ve turned a hard corner in the right direction and it was easy to miss

Reading Time: 3 minutes Vegas odds still say impeachment will not happen. However, the drumbeat of the Special Council investigation is particularly loud right now. Many smart people think we are sitting on the brink of a constitutional crisis of some kind imminently. There are many indications Mueller is closing in on the President and his family.

However, the sign most striking to me was this press conference. What the investigation yields will be largely dependant on the mood of the Senate. The mouthpiece of the patriarchy that sits in that chamber just stepped out of line, publicly, not just taking a position in opposition of the White House, but calling them out for a conspiracy – involving the death of a journalist.

Vanity Fair: “THEY SAY WE’RE WHITE SUPREMACISTS”: INSIDE THE STRANGE WORLD OF CONSERVATIVE COLLEGE WOMEN

Reading Time: 16 minutes Over the weeks that I had been talking to them, they had told me about times they had been catcalled and sexually harassed online; they were coming of age at a time when such things seemed so routine they didn’t bat an eye. A certain fraternity on their campus was notorious for its “basement,” they said, a place where “they take girls down there and roofie them, rape them, run a train.” And yet they weren’t worried about the cultural implications of the Kavanaugh case for themselves, they said, but for young men. “I’m scared for all the conservative guys I know,” Cammie said. “Heaven forbid you ever have an opportunity in life and it’s just ruined because someone has a different political agenda than you.”
