[Astrology] Mythbusting Scorpio

“I’m a Scorpio so I’m destined to be a jealous, insensitive, vengeful control freak, with bitchy tendencies that scare people away”
NO!!!!!!!
Maybe that statement exaggerates a little, but not by much. I’ve had Scorpio folks tell me every one of those things, about their own star sign.
Welcome to the first in a new series of mythbusting star signs.
Those popular myths about Scorpio are mostly the result of a repressed Scorpio trying to break free.
What drives Scorpio?
An intense yearning for deep, soul-to-soul connection, and a unique appetite for things that matter.
Superficial cocktail party chit-chat? That’s like bamboo under the fingernails, to Scorpio.
Sitting in a quiet corner, helping a new friend transform something deep and profound? That’s the Scorpio sweet spot.
For Scorpio, things have to be edgy – sink or swim, life or death.
When there are no consequences, that’s bland and boring AF for Scorpio.
Not because Scorpio is a drama queen.
But because Scorpio knows how to walk into the places where our most terrifying primal power lives.
We all have Scorpio somewhere in our charts.
But to someone who’s not yet explored their own Scorpio, a Scorpio in all her power and glory can, indeed, feel scary.
That’s partly because our nervous systems are naturally wired to get us to avoid discomfort; but actually, we do know how to sit with it.
If you’ve had a wax job, plucked your eyebrows, had a tattoo, given birth, worn high heels, broken through to the runner’s high, lifted that extra 10lb on the bench press, or been to therapy – you know how.
But consider this.
The patriarchy cannot abide the full expression of that Scorpionic power, especially in people who are told they ‘don’t belong’ in positions of power, and it targets our aversion to discomfort accordingly.
Imagine if ‘those people’ – the women, the people of colour, the disabled, the LGBTQI community – imagine if they got hold of their own full power, how terrifying that would be, to the patriarchy.
Of course the Scorpionic realms aren’t comfortable.
Ruled by Pluto, this sign is at home in the underworld, where death and rebirth take place, where sometimes the journey of transformation feels like crawling through the mud over broken glass.
Jung said “One does not become enlightened by imagining figures of light, but by making the darkness conscious”.
That sums up Scorpio when she’s in her power.
She’s not going to hold back. She’s a force of nature.
And, like any force of nature, when she’s taught to hold back from her own superpower – because Good Girls don’t simply ‘speak out’, or seek that deep connection – her power builds up behind those dam walls with an intensity that can topple mountains and sweep away cities.
Scorpio, standing in her power, is a beautiful and profound gift of courage, the leap of faith manifested in human form, a capacity for profound connection which makes her exquisitely sensitive and potent.
Scorpio, boxed in, can have consequences when she finally unleashes herself. Not because she’s innately a bitch. But because in those moments of feeling her full power, she might not even notice she’s trodden on someone’s toes.
Love your Scorpio, bring her forth, let her bring her power into the world – and watch her create beautiful transformation in those whose lives she touches.
PS if you need help reconnecting with your own unique Scorpio energy, that’s something I can help with.
