Astrology: the breeze freshens

Reading Time: 3 minutes

This week sees Mercury in the last moments of his Gemini journey dance with the Lunar Nodes, emphasising the shift of energy from their recent shift of sign (or upcoming shift, depending on which system you use!)

These hypothetical points in the sky describe the relationship between Sun, Moon and Earth, and they are linked to our journey through time.

Some astrologers work with the True Nodes, some with the Mean Nodes – the difference is tiny in the grand scheme of things, and comes from some small variation in the way the mathematics of geometry is applied. Since we can’t observe these hypothetical points with a telescope, we rely on the mathematics of 3D orbital geometry, so a tiny variation in calculation approaches is normal.

The TL:DR version?

North Node represents the future, while South Node represents the past.

This month, or in a few days, the North Node moves into Gemini for the first time in nearly 20 years, while South Node moves into Sagittarius.

And this WEEK, Mercury (the ruler of Gemini) is exactly conjunct with the North Node and opposite the South Node (exact times below).

You might also remember, dear reader, that the recent New Moon was in Gemini, while the upcoming Full Moon is Sagittarius.

HUGE potential for curiosity to be at maximum levels, especially in terms of our own relationship with the past and the future.

For the past 18 months or so, North Node has been in Moon’s sign of Cancer – emotionally oriented, focused on deep soul connection and our yearning for feelings of safety. South Node has been in Capricorn, natural home to our get-shit-done taskmaster Saturn.

The change will be palpable!

North Node picks up Mercury’s trickster, inquisitive energy, making it a perfect support for new ideas, new ways of thinking, new brain habits.

Meanwhile South Node is in party mode, flush with Jupiterian optimism and far more inclined to find the fun of the adventure. When dealing with old outmoded habits, this is like moving from serious Saturn saying ‘get this work done’ and into exploratory Jupiter saying ‘ooooh, I wonder what happens when I embrace freedom!’

The cobwebs of old thoughts and beliefs are being blown away, and we’re being invited to take a stiff broom to any pieces which still cling tight.

With the First Quarter Moon at the end of the week in Virgo, it’s yet another iteration of the Mercury dynamic. This time, it’s about the grounded platform created when we design systems and structures to support what we’re bringing forth into the world.

The rough outline might be something like:

  • Gemini / New Moon / North Node – curiosity. What am I making next? What would be fun and a bit cheeky? What would feel like adventurous reaching forward?
  • Virgo First Quarter Moon – ground it in reality. What systems would I need for this? What thoughts (aka neural pathways aka brain systems) would best support this?
  • Sagittarius Full Moon – take it out into the daylight, beyond the horizon. Who would love this? How can I get it to them? How do I launch this like a rocket into the world?

The feeling is likely to be lighter, more airy.

Imagine yourself facing into the breeze like a sniffer dog, nose raised to catch the scent of freedom, joy, excitement and possibility as the wind carries them to you.

Delicious!

Exact times (US Eastern timezone):

  • 28 May, 12:35 AM – Mercury conjunct North Node
  • 29 May , 11:30 PM – First Quarter Moon at 9º Virgo
