Fed slashes rates in emergency response to coronavirus
Trump tweeted that he wants even more rate cuts.
The Federal Reserve announced Tuesday that it is cutting interest rates by half a percentage point, an emergency move designed to bolster the U.S. economy amid risks posed by the coronavirus outbreak, which is expected to endanger economies around the world.
The move came after a week of investor panic in financial markets that had sent stocks plunging by as much as 10 percent. And it came hours after President Donald Trump pummeled Fed Chairman Jerome Powell in a tweet, charging that the U.S. central bank chief was “slow to act” in the face of the coronavirus threat and urging him to cut rates.

The Supreme Court Case That Could Gut Roe v. Wade
On Wednesday, the Supreme Court will hear oral arguments in the first major abortion case of the Trump era.
The case centers on a restrictive Louisiana law requiring abortion providers to have admitting privileges at nearby hospitals — a measure opponents say is medically unnecessary and will result in the closure of all but one clinic in the state. Louisiana claims it protects the health and safety of those seeking abortions.
The court struck down a virtually identical Texas law in 2016, in the landmark Whole Woman’s Health v. Hellerstedt decision. The only thing that has changed since then is the composition of the court.

Why Elizabeth Warren is staying in the race
Warren’s plan to go all the way to the convention is making some progressives nervous.
Sen. Elizabeth Warren seems like she’s going to persist her way to the convention — and that could have some important implications for how the 2020 Democratic primary plays out.
Moderates appear to be rallying around former Vice President Joe Biden. Sen. Amy Klobuchar and former South Bend, Indiana, Mayor Pete Buttigieg dropped out and endorsed him in an attempt to consolidate the anti-Sen. Bernie Sanders coalition. That’s potentially a problem for the left.
“Moderates consolidating their support around Biden and progressives remaining still a little bit more divided between Warren and Sanders is not an ideal situation,” said Julian NoiseCat, vice president of policy and strategy at the progressive think tank Data for Progress.
