Raising Expectations
By: Jeannette Maw – Confluence Daily is your daily news source for women in the know.
When was the last time you caught yourself anticipating something to go wrong or to turn out difficult?
Like maybe when getting a letter from the bank, or called into the boss’ office, or getting a call in the middle of the night?
Or maybe it’s what you envision when you hear the car making a bad sound, or you’re waiting on test results, or meeting a new online date.
It’s not unusual that our first thoughts aren’t good ones.
That’s when conscious creators can shine.
When we notice we’re instructing a negative outcome (by holding negative expectations), we can change our mind before it’s too late.
(Although it’s never too late. It’s totally possible to undo what’s been done, but that’s another post and another skill set.)
Instead, when we realize we’re manifesting negative results by holding negative expectations, we can realize we were headed down a road we’d rather not go, and envision something different. Expect something better. Something easier. Something smoother and more enjoyable.
Like when I realized I was bracing for a fight when it was time to transport my foster feral momma cat back to the shelter: I took a minute or two to see and feel things going smoothly. It went so well I stood in astonishment afterward!
Or when a self-employed friend realized he was expecting dismal results for his new offer: he took the time to expect that everything would work out well, and ended up making more money that week than in the entire history of his decade-long business.
Or when a savvy GVU member noticed she was anticipating finding her rental home a wreck after a family of four tenants moved out. She changed her expectation and found it in great shape, and then manifested an easy and swift sale of the property!
This is the purview of conscious creators, but there are two tricks to raising expectations …
The first trick is to notice when we’re anticipating what we don’t want. Lots of times we don’t even notice we’re doing it. I didn’t clue in to what I was creating with the nightmare feral cat transport until I heard myself talking about it with a client. Awareness is required to pull off this magic! My second tipoff was when I noticed my heart was racing and I’d broken out in a sweat. A literal sweat. That might seem hard to miss, but you’d be surprised how many times we blindly continue down an unpleasant path with a negative outcome in mind!
The second trick is to effectively change what we’re thinking. We can do that by being willing to imagine it going well instead of poorly. That’s all it takes. What’s the best that could happen? Give that a little thought and you’re well on your way to raising expectations. (GVU members will enjoy the Stretch of the Imagination course as good support with that.)
Some expectations are easier to change than others. But the more you practice, the more success you’ll have and the better you get at it. Start with the easy stuff first to build your confidence.
Many of us are good at imagining the worst, which is why it’s worth learning to raise our expectations.
I’d love to hear your tips and successes for this manifesting trick in the comments! How do you clue in when you’re offering an unwanted vibrational instruction, and how do you turn that around? Thanks for sharing your expertise!
