Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez Is Only Democrat To Vote Against Reopening Government
The congresswoman called it a “tough/nuanced” decision to reject ICE funding.
Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-N.Y.) was the lone House Democrat to vote against a bill to reopen the government on Wednesday, a position she described as “a tough/nuanced call,” The Hill reported.
The short-term measure included funding for Immigration and Customs Enforcement, which Ocasio-Cortez explained in an Instagram story is opposed by many people she represents.
“Most of our votes are pretty straightforward, but today was a tough/nuanced call,” Ocasio-Cortez wrote. “We didn’t vote with the party because one of the spending bills included ICE funding and our community felt strongly about not funding that.”

Trump made ominous innuendos about Cohen’s father-in-law. Now Cohen’s congressional testimony may be off.
Michael Cohen’s testimony before the House Oversight Committee next month was supposed to be the first bombshell hearing from the new Democratic House of Representatives.
But on Wednesday, Cohen announced that he was withdrawing his commitment to appear — because, his lawyer said, of “threats against his family” from President Trump and his lawyer Rudy Giuliani.
On several occasions over the past month and a half, Trump has publicly floated ominous innuendos about how Cohen’s father-in-law (and in one instance, Cohen’s wife) could be tied to criminal activity. Trump’s claim was that Cohen was trying to get a lighter sentence by giving purportedly false information about him, because he didn’t want to have to give accurate information about … something involving his father-in-law.

“IT IS A HIGH-WIRE ACT”: D.O.J. VETS HAVE THEORIES ABOUT MUELLER’S MESSAGE TO BUZZFEED
Days later, people who know Mueller are still trying to make sense of the stare-down. And they’re wondering about the identity of BuzzFeed’s alleged Deep Throats.
After two years of near-total silence, Robert Mueller spoke, and people who know him want to know why. Last Thursday, BuzzFeed published an extraordinary report alleging that Donald Trump had instructed Michael Cohen to lie to Congress about plans to build a Trump Tower in Moscow, prompting an equally extraordinary denial from the special counsel’s office. The “description of specific statements to the special counsel’s office, and characterization of documents and testimony obtained by this office, regarding Michael Cohen’s congressional testimony are not accurate,” said special-counsel spokesperson Peter Carr. BuzzFeed, meanwhile, is standing by the story. On Tuesday, the outlet dumped a cache of documents related to the Moscow project, including texts and architectural renderings, as if to say: we’ve got the goods.
Days later, veterans of the Justice Department are still trying to make sense of the stare-down. “Mueller wouldn’t have done that unless he felt compelled to do it. He doesn’t really care what the media reports; he doesn’t really care what the rumors are,” said Robert Grant, a former top F.B.I. agent who used to work with Mueller. “For him to go out and do that, that’s extraordinary, which means his team must have convinced him that [they] had to correct that because of its potential impact on the investigation. And I don’t know what those impacts might be.”
