Astrology: Big dreams, ahoy!

Reading Time: 6 minutes

By:  Janette Dalgliesh – Confluence Daily is your daily news source for women in the know.

How did you enjoy the New Moon Eclipse a few days ago? Did you manage to implement (or perhaps plan) that major ditching of the outmoded? Is the energy between eclipses rattling your nerves a little?

I don’t think it’s a coincidence that everyone is talking about Maria Kondo’s Netflix series at the moment. I’m a fan-with-reservations, who keeps super-savvy house muse and fellow Confluencer Jacqueline Gates on speed dial, but whether you love or loathe Ms Kondo, there’s no doubt her work taps into that zeitgeist of ‘time’s up, out with the old’.

But if the eclipse left you a bit meh about the whole thing – here’s a tip worth knowing. Any eclipse creates a series of ripples in time. The energy of the eclipse may be felt three days before or three days after; or it may be felt 30 days before or after. So be aware – you may get the full impact of that New Moon around the time of the February New Moon, aka Chinese New Year and the arrival of the (wonderfully lucky and favourable) Pig energy. And that could be a load of fun!

So consider this a quiet nudge and a heads up to say, that get-it-outta-here energy may still be on its way for you. And that’s cool.

Meanwhile, what’s in the astro weather for the next week?

Overall, think big winds coming up behind.

Perfect for fast movement forward; and you’ll want to be ready to trim the sails if things seem to be getting a little too wild.

You can definitely navigate this to your advantage when you bring in your awareness and take up that position of agency and authority, the captain on the bridge of your own ship.

Adding some ballast to the adventure and helping to keep things grounded, we have Mercury pinging off Saturn in Capricorn – our conscious awareness meets our sensible master of logistics, in the super grounded sign where we know how to make shit real, and how to cultivate our ambitions with pragmatism and good preparation.

The winds coming up from behind are Jupiter in Sagittarius, activated by Neptune in Pisces (exact times below).

Jupiter in Sag is all big expansion, anything is possible, party time!

Neptune in Pisces is all dreams and swirling emotions and intangible imagination.

It’s the kind of vibe that opens the door to wild schemes for making a million bucks in 30 days if I sign up with the right marketing guru; or chucking in the day job to sit on a beach and write the Great American Novel; or splurging all the savings on a round-the-world voyage to Find Myself.

None of those wild schemes is inherently wrong or bad or undesirable. Okay, maybe that one about the marketing guru is a little suspect.

But all is well, when you remember to curate the big wild dreams just a little. Bring in that grounded Mercury/Saturn energy.

But don’t go asking ‘is this realistic’?

Your brain’s job is to keep you safe, so it will ALWAYS err on the side of caution when answering a leading question like this. And it will find plenty of fellow nay-sayers to echo that voice of doom which says ‘anything big and wild must be suspect’. And that’s like trying to set a speed record while dragging a sea-anchor behind you.

Rather, ask ‘what could I do today, to set my course towards that reality?’

The answer might be ‘put it in your planner and take the first step towards it today – and that first step is some research and a little due diligence’.

Or it might be ‘hire the right coach for this dream, and let them help you figure it out – because sometimes that outside perspective opens up possibilities you hadn’t even considered’.

Or the answer might be ‘actually, you don’t need to pursue that specific dream – rather, you can drill down to figure out the feeling you think that dream will give you, and find ways to get that feeling right now’.

In other words, let the Jupiter/Neptune party fire up your enthusiasm for the big dream, fuelling your forward momentum; and then let the pragmatists Mercury and Saturn into the mix, to help hold the ship steady on course.

Engage the big slippery daydream energy AND balance it with time and energy invested in taking care of business.

Because the other event at play this week is a semi-sextile (30 degree) meeting between Uranus, god of unexpected change, and Chiron.

In astronomical terms, Chiron – discovered in 1977 – is one of a group of bodies christened centaurs, to reflect their composite nature because they have characteristics of both asteroid and comet.

In mythological terms, Chiron was known as a youth-nurturer and coach (he trained many Greek heroes including Jason and Hercules); and his foster father Apollo taught him all the healing arts.

Chiron is linked to our own growth and evolution because he helps us to heal and nurture ourselves, but he’s also – as Kim Falconer so brilliantly puts it – our inner audacity coach.

Uranus likes to upend things, to kick down the fences, to make way for our own deepest, and sometimes scariest, desires and values.

Chiron says ‘dude, you can totally nail this!’, even as we tremble on the brink.

All of that, in this post-eclipse period, makes for some shaking loose of old, small, apologetic ways of being, and opens up a potent sense of possibility. You may even feel that your biggest dreams STILL aren’t big enough.

That’s okay.

Go with what you can get in touch with right now.

Let this energy draw you forward with relish and glee, and simultaneously activate your smart, pragmatic intelligence to make sure your ship is on the course you wish.

Want to master flying so you can take your kids to remote places on your own timeframe? Research flying lessons, trawl the interwebz for small aircraft to buy, create a Go Fund Me campaign to get in the moolah you’ll need. Start behaving like someone who is on the brink of being, or is already, a pilot with her own plane.

Want to earn your living as a musician? Beg, borrow or barter an instrument and get practicing. Busk if you can. Haunt open mic nights. Start behaving like a professional musician.

Overall, the feelings may be ‘holy crap, I can do ANYTHING!!!’

Just make sure it’s ‘holy crap I could make this business of mine work after all!!’ rather than ‘holy crap I could jump off this rooftop and fly!!’

Do your due diligence. Make sure to include the step by steps.

Don’t let reality deter you or hold you back. But do make sure it gets woven into the mix.

Full Moon heads up!

Next week sees a fabulous ‘super blood wolf’ Full Moon. It’s a supermoon because it’s a Full Moon positioned at the moon’s closest point to earth (aka perigee), making it brighter than normal. It’s a blood moon because it’s a total lunar eclipse, which means the sunlight passing through our atmosphere appears to turn red. And the January Full Moon is also known as a Wolf Moon.

I’ll have some more info about this event for you next week, but you might want to put it in your calendar depending on where you live, because people in North and South America, as well as folks in western parts of Europe and Africa, are going to have a fabulous view of this event.

Exact times:
Jupiter square Neptune – 13 January 1.58pm Eastern US time
Uranus semi-sextile Chiron – 19 January 6.57pm Eastern US time
January Full Moon – 21 January 12.12am Eastern US time
