Astrology: Getting the urge to make shit real? Good!
By: Janette Dalgliesh – Confluence Daily is your daily news source for women in the know.
In the lead up to New Year 2019**, the astrology is almost perfectly designed to line us up for a burst of productivity and ‘hit the ground running’ energy come January.
This week sees the Sun move out of wild-dreaming, anything-is-possible Sagittarius and into get-this-thing-DONE Capricorn (21 December at 5:23pm EST), and he’ll be there for about a month.
This Saturn-ruled sign is all about fulfilling ambition and achieving goals.
Capricorn’s image is the sea-goat, with the forequarters of the goat and the tail of the fish.
Think of the sea-goat’s movement from the depths of the ocean (swirling, intangible, chaotic, unformed) onto dry land (becoming clear, visible, easier to articulate, grounded, more solid).
But this is a goat, not a cow or a sheep.
Not content with merely making it to the beach, the sea-goat seeks to climb the mountain summit (make it real, get it done, fulfill ambition, reach the goal).
And if you’ve seen goats climbing, there’s a natural gravity-defying capacity to reach impossible heights, often by taking paths which appear to lead sideways, with the summit the goal.
Not only is Sun moving into Capricorn, as it does so it’s beginning to move into a conjunction with sign ruler Saturn, so we can expect a lot more of that Saturnian energy to be at play – both the influence of the planetary spirit, and the part of your psyche which seeks excellence, mastery, accomplishment and authority.
This is great news for getting shit done, but it can also bring along some pesky, sharp-toothed self-doubt.
What if I can’t do it?
What if I’m not big enough / smart enough / cool enough / old enough / young enough?
What if I screw up?
What if I don’t have time or energy or capacity to get it all done??!!
Deep breath.
If you think you’re not already achieving a ton, it’s probably time to re-evaluate how you define achievement.
Allow the smallest achievements to count, not just the big ones or the obvious ones. Remember those goats on their upward trajectory, sometimes moving sideways or taking teeny tiny steps to get to the next vantage point. So you’re doing okay.
And… this is not full on, brakes-off, leap up the mountain energy just yet.
Soon, for sure.
Mercury is still in Sagittarius and won’t cross into practical Capricorn until 5 January; plus he’s still in the shadow zone of the recent Retrograde until 24 December, so he’s not quite on board yet.
In addition, this Sun is being challenged by warrior action hero Mars who is making his dreamy way through floaty, watery Pisces. With Mars placed there until the New Year, action may still feel remote and muted. In addition, rebellious Uranus is moving Retrograde through mission-impossible Aries, bringing an element of ‘I can do anything I want and I don’t care!’.
Think of this week as the point in the sea-goat journey that moves from sea to land. Concepts solidify into ideas and plans that you can begin to articulate clearly. You may not know every single detail just yet, but as you allow some things to come into focus, others are not far behind.
You’re at base camp on the beach, preparing for the mountain climb – and we know not to rush that preparation if we want the next bit to go well.
With those elements of ‘anything is possible’ and ‘doing it MY way!’ at play, you can let them inspire the choices you make while you’re there on the beach, doing your prep for the mountain climb.
You may feel the push-pull of urgently wanting to get something done; while Mars and Chiron are finishing up their swim through watery Pisces and not quite ready to set foot on dry land.
The key here? Embrace it all.
Make optimistic plans, and research practical ways to implement.
Activate your focus on organisation, discipline, responsibility – getting ready to step up and step out as the make-shit-real energies increase over the next couple of weeks (including Mars into Aries).
And finally, a quick heads up for the Full Moon in Cancer in the first degree, on 22 December at 12:48 PM EST.
This Cancer Full Moon may inspire an unexpected desire to ‘go home’ in some way. Perhaps to touch base with family, to travel back to familiar places that feel like home, to reread favourite and familiar books, to get back in touch with something personal and intimate that’s been neglected for too long.
Since this is happening at a time of year when, for some, going home can be tricky – please be sure to engage plenty of self-love (aka kindness turned inwards), as there may be doors opened into vulnerable and intimate spaces you haven’t visited for a while.
** Disclaimer, for clarity – the stars do not care a bean about human calendars, so don’t go thinking the January 1 New Year has some special significance astrologically. HOWEVER, since so many millions of humans here in the West mark the beginning of the Gregorian calendar year – whether with celebrations or plans or resolutions or whatever – it does have an energetic and vibrational oomph to it. And that makes it interesting to see what astrological dynamics happen to be at play around this time, and build those into any plans you have. More on this next week, stay tuned!
