California Police Shoot and Kill Unarmed Black Man in His Own Backyard
Police followed in pursuit, and Clark allegedly turned toward them and began advancing toward them “while holding an object which was extended in front of him.” Believing that object to be a gun and saying that they feared for their lives, officers fired at Clark multiple times. They then held their position for about five minutes, according to the press release, until more officers arrived before approaching Clark, handcuffing him and beginning lifesaving efforts.
According to Sacramento Bee reporter Anita Chabria, the officers fired at Clark 20 times. Fire Department personnel pronounced Clark dead at the scene.
Zuckerberg Breaks Silence on Facebook Crisis as Criticism Grows
“I’ve been working to understand exactly what happened and how to make sure this doesn’t happen again,” Zuckerberg wrote in a post on his Facebook profile page. “I promise you we’ll work through this and build a better service over the long term.”
By pledging to investigate whether Cambridge Analytica still holds the information it obtained from a third-party app creator, and broadening the probe to other developers that may have run afoul of Facebook’s rules, Zuckerberg took a step in the right direction, according to lawmakers, investors and users. But it wasn’t enough to end the criticism — some remained skeptical the company is doing enough.
Mississippi Is Sending Its First Woman To Congress. Here’s When Your State Did That
On Wednesday, Mississippi became the 49th state to choose its first woman to send to Congress.
The appointment of Republican Cindy Hyde-Smith as Mississippi’s junior senator comes 101 years after the first woman, Montana Rep. Jeannette Rankin, went to Congress. Republican Gov. Phil Bryant appointed Hyde-Smith to fill the seat being vacated by Sen. Thad Cochran, who announced that he would resign as of April 1 due to poor health.
That will leave just one state — Vermont — that has never sent a woman to Capitol Hill.
