Hope Hicks, the White House communications director, is resigning as of this afternoon.
One of President Donald Trump’s longest-serving and closest aides, and White House insiders Hicks’s resignation comes a day after she spent the day testifying before the House Intelligence Committee.
The New York Times first reported her departure.
The twenty-nine-year-old former model and aspiring actress gave her resignation in the wake of a grueling day of questioning by the House Intel Committee where she largely refused to answer questions. Questions are swirling around her resignation regarding whether or not this signals she has cut a deal to work with the Mueller investigation.
Hope Hicks came up through the Trump organization ranks through Invanka’s fashion brand but became involved in the Trump campaign in it’s early stages in various PR and communications roles. With almost no experience Hicks was promoted to White House Communications Director after everyone in line before her left the White House.
Hicks has largely stayed out of the public eye. However, her romantic relationship with Rob Porter became a talking point during his FBI clearance crisis in recent weeks. It’s unlikely that her resignation will allow her to drift away from the spotlight anytime soon as her role in the Russian scandal is heating up by the day.
